In complete issue of 'The Times' weekly edition,23 May 1919, Their single engined Sopwith 'Atlantic' left Newfoundland on 18 May 1919 They were forced to ditch in the Atlantic some 14 hours later & were rescued but the news did not arrive in London for a week. LONDON, July 12.--While testing his airplane for the aerial derby, Harry Hawker, the famous airman, was killed this evening at Hendon, his machine crashing to the ground in flames.
